Whites Only at Seafood Restaurant

Taken from "The Daily Graphic" newspaper in Ghana.
Yesterday, there was an article in the newspaper that was quite interesting. It's actually a story I already knew about because my friend had told me over the weekend. He knew of some people who weren't allowed to enter a certain establishment.

There is a seafood restaurant in the Osu area of Accra that has allegedly been open to Whites only. The restaurant, Atlantic Lobsters Dolphin Ltd. was operating on a membership only basis. According to the Daily Graphic newspaper, when a Ghanaian lady asked to become a member of the restaurant, she was told by one of the owners, “It is for white people only.”

The restaurant was closed down recently but, not because of it's alleged 'white only' policy. Rather they were forced to close because it was operating illegally without a proper license. How is it that such an operation was even able to exist?

A worker at the restaurant, Marco Ranaldi, told the radio station XFM 95.1 that this allegation is not true.  He says that the restaurant serves all regardless of race, age or sex.  He was quoted as saying, "we should be fools to exclude anybody; majority of people here are Ghanaians so why should we do something like that."  It is confirmed by the restaurant that membership is definitely a requirement in order to have entered the establishment.

Issues between the different races seems to be a universal issue and as much as the world has had its changes, there are still many people whose attitudes towards other races has not changed. From what I understand there were many people who are outraged at this situation.
