I Finally Ate Soursop

A bowl of soursop at a mini-market.
One of the wonderful things about being in Ghana is access to fruits and vegetables daily.  You can go to the market or find someone selling at a little kiosk.  No matter where you go, you'll find an assortment of tropical fruits and vegetables to suit your taste.

I like trying new things and this prickly looking fruit is one that I see all the time, but had never tasted.  It's actually not new to me because I recall seeing these at Chinese grocery stores in ChinaTown in downtown Toronto.  I never asked what they were called until I discovered they are now in season in Ghana.  The woman selling it didn't know the English name for the fruit, but I found it that it's soursop.  I laughed when I realized it because I've had packaged sour-sop juice before.  But I'm certain it wasn't pure juice and had a lot of other ingredients, added suguar and additives since it was a prepackaged drink.

When I bought myself the sour-sop I was looking forward to eating it.  I put it in the fridge so it chilled overnight.  Sometimes I like my fruit to be cold.  I find it refreshing that way for some fruits.  When I cut it open it was a soft texture inside with plenty of seeds too.  (Oops, sorry, I neglected to take a photo of that.)  The taste was very sweet.  I really liked it.  I'll definitely be buying this fruit again.  Next time, I'll make a smoothie using this and other delicious fruits. I wonder what it will taste like mixed with mango.
